I am a 19-year veteran with the Chesilhurst Police Department. Since having the pleasure of being employed with the department I have been a part of many different units, and have had numerous roles and responsibilities, which include but are not limited to the Patrol Unit, D.A.R.E. Unit (Drug Abuse Resistant Education), Community Policing Unit, Juvenile Unit, C.A.R.T. Team Member (Child Aliduction Response Team), Department Resiliency Officer, Project Save Liaison, Watch Commander, and Safety Coordinator. Some of the duties for each position are as follows: Patrol Unit: Provide public safely by maintaining order; Respond to emergencies; Protect people and property; Enforcing minor and criminal laws; Promote good community relations; Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts; Record facts to prepare reports that document incidents and activities; Review facts of incidents to determine if criminal act or statue violations were involved; Render aid to accident victims and other persons requiring first aid for physical injuries; Evaluate complaint and emergency request information to determine response requirements; Monitor, note, report, and investigate suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol area; Monitor traffic to ensure motorists observe traffic regulations and exhibit safe driving procedures; Relay complaint and emergency-request information to appropriate services needed; Direct traffic flow and reroute traffic in case of emergencies; Act as official escort, such as when leading funeral processions or ambulance and/or paramedics. D.A.R.E. Unit: Instruct elementary school students in a class-room environment of the D.A.R.E. curriculum including effects of drugs, building self-esteem, drug awareness, bullying, and gang avoidance; Interact with students, school administrators, teachers and parents outside of the classroom environment; Prepare, organize, and facilitate presentations for various youth related activities, including the National Night Out; Attend Parent Teacher Association meetings; Present information, and discuss issues at school related to student safety and law enforcement; Coordinate school and community programs with the Police personnel; Prepare teaching materials and aids including lessons plans, student handouts, visual aids, and props; Prepare and distribute student notebooks and folders, and review homework assignments. Community Policing Unit: Focus on social and community issues; Develop a relationship with community members to solve problems through collaborating with residents and to address issues; Work with local organizations, leaders and ordinary citizens to create and maintain comfortable and safe living conditions; Work side by side with community groups to address specific problems or work towards certain goals; Offer support and relative information when necessary; Develop intimate relationships with the community, its infrastructure and the residents; Invest time in getting to know the area and working towards various improvements; Inform citizens of community services and recommend options to facilitate longer-term problem resolution. Juvenile Policing Unit: Mentor, provide safety, security, and wellbeing for juveniles when needed; When appropriate, respond to inquiries and or complaints from parents, other law enforcement personnel, social workers, medical providers, and the general public; Maintain strong communication skills, and understand how to interact with adolescents; Develop a familiarity with community resource; Work with several government and social agencies. C.A.R.T. Team Member (Child Abduction Response Team): Provide immediate service anywhere within the state of New Jersey in the event that a child, disabled citizen, and or elderly person is missing, has possibly been abducted, or is believed to be in immediate danger; Work hand and hand with the F.B.I., New Jersey State Police, and or County Prosecutors Office when ever need be. Department Resiliency Officer: Provide direct service, counseling, and/or resources for any officer who is in need, in a direct effort to curve the high number of suicides in the field of Law Enforcement. Project Save Liaison: Provide resources to those persons whom are arrested, ticketed, and/or contacted in which at the time are believed to have any kind of issues or problems with addiction. Watch Commander: Responsible for planning, supervising, and reviewing the activities of all personnel assigned to a major division, which may include a patrol or support function. Supervision is exercised over all staff of sworn and/or civilian personnel primarily through subordinate supervisors. Work involves participating in the preparation of the budget by recommending personnel and capital needs for a department; directing or personally investigating citizen complaints about Police personnel conduct and services; commanding the Police Department, when assigned on shift, by organizing and directing personnel and equipment during major events or emergencies; interacting with community organizations and representing the Police Department on various committees and boards; coordinating activities with other law enforcement agencies; and participating in various projects and/or programs. The Watch Commander recommends comprehensive goals and objectives and is responsible for their implementation and results achieved. Safety Coordinator: Safety Coordinators are responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing employee safety at work. The main duty is to ensure that the Borough are complying and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries.

In addition, while employed with the Chesilhurst Police department I have held the ranks of Patrolman, Sergeant (Patrol), Lieutenant (Patrol, Administrative), and Acting Chief. My educational back ground includes an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts, a Bachelors degree in Social Work, and a dual Masters degree in Human Services, Marriage and Family Counseling. The education that I have gained prior to and while in the field of Law Enforcement has helped me immensely. For me, having a history that is rooted in hard work, dedication, and the development of leadership skills has fueled my innate passion for helping others. Over the years this passion which has morphed into my purpose, tethered and aided through the education that I have obtained has maximized my ability to help the community in which I serve. I will continue to lead by example, navigate within my purpose, treat others the way I want to be treated, and last but not least practice humility within this process with the understanding that being a Police is a privilege and not a given.
